“The void of space may be cold and unfeeling, but that does not mean that we have to be. We can be more. We can be better. We can fill space not only with innovation and technology, but with prosperity, equality and self determination for all. Some say it cannot be done… they believe that we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of those that came before us. I think we can do better. Where words cannot sway those that would destabilize our community, we will bring weapons to bear. We do so not out of some misplaced idea of valour, but out of duty to our people and our responsibility to uphold peace across the galaxy. Do not don the uniform for glamour or glory. Wear the uniform as a farmer wears the callous upon his hand. Bear the coat of arms as the carpenter bears the hammer. Don it out of a desire to create, to grow… to be a part of something bigger.”
The Captain concludes her address, closing her folio and folding her hands calmly on top of it. She looks around at the committee sitting before her, her eyes wander over your own face, lingering for but a moment.
“These are the words that inspired me to enlist in our order. I can only hope that they inspire some of you to volunteer for this assignment. I know not what awaits you at the outskirts of tamed space, I only know that those who are blameless in our interplanetary disputes have called upon us for aid. Will YOU answer the call?”
I worked on Into the Motherlands starting with its first season, where I wrote and crafted the very first storyline that would be this unique project's introduction to the world. Soon, I was brought on by the team to help build out the world that will eventually serve as a launch pad for player's to write their own adventures.
